Die Macher
Suggested Variant Rules
A new, heavily-revised edition of Die Macher appeared
in 1997 with several good new ideas. Owners of the older edition
may like to apply these ideas to their play of the original game:
- Turn Order
Turn order is now determined by players writing down their
bids for the right to choose the turn order. The high bidder
pays the amount written -- others pay nothing. The winner
decides which player will go first for all actions in the
turn; the rest of the turn order is determined in clockwise
fashion.
- Party Conferences
Instead of holding Party Conferences, now the players hold
a secret hand of 3 party program cards. Before the Shadow
Cabinet Phase, there is a Party Program Commission Conference
Phase in which each player in turn may discard up to 3 of
these cards and receive new ones from the deck. From these
cards, during this phase the player may trade out one of
his existing policies with one of the ones in his hand.
- Shadow Cabinet
- Players do not discard any Shadow Cabinet ministers at the
start of the game.
- Only 1 minister may be placed in a region per turn.
- Doubler
A doubler is available for each region in play. (Use a coin
or other token to denote this.)
